AI credits: the balance that pays for the AI tutor
The screen where you see how many AI credits you have left and buy more.
AI credits are the prepaid balance that pays for the AI features in Ekati — above all the AI tutor you can open inside a lesson. Nothing is billed behind your back and there is no monthly subscription: you buy a number of credits, they are used a little at a time, and you top up when they run low.
The page is in three parts. At the top, your balance. In the middle, the top-up box where you choose how many credits to buy. At the bottom, your credit history — every movement, with the payment reference that caused it. Open it from AI Credits in the sidebar.
One credit is one small unit of AI work. The price in francs is printed next to the box as you type, so you always see the amount before you commit to anything.
Top up in three steps
Credits are added the moment the payment is confirmed.
-
Step 1
Open AI Credits
Read the balance at the top of the page. If the figure looks out of date, press Refresh to fetch the real number.
-
Step 2
Choose how many credits
Type a whole number of credits in the Credits box. The amount in XAF updates as you type, and the button below shows the total.
-
Step 3
Add to cart, then pay
Press the button that carries the amount, then Go to checkout and confirm the payment as usual. Your balance rises as soon as the payment is confirmed.
What the balance means, and what it does not
It is prepaid, so it can only ever go down to zero.
The number at the top is what is left
The line under the title reads Balance: N Credits, with the model that will answer you. That figure is what remains, not what you have spent in total. Behind it sit two other numbers: everything you have ever been given, and everything used so far. The balance is the difference, and it is the only number you spend.
Refresh when you are unsure
The number is checked against the AI provider each time you open the page, but if you have just used the tutor on another device it may be a little behind. Press Refresh and the figure is fetched again immediately. If the balance reaches zero, the screen says so and offers you the top-up box.
Nothing goes quietly below zero
This is prepaid money, so the balance stops at zero instead of turning into a debt. When it is empty, the AI tutor stops answering and tells you so plainly, with a button that takes you straight to the top-up page. You will never open a negative balance by accident, and you will never be surprised later by an amount you did not agree to.
Some schools switch on a free-model fallback: when the paid balance hits zero, requests move to free models until their rate limit is reached. When that setting is on for your school, a notice at the top of the page says so, and you should expect the answers to get shorter-lived rather than your balance to go below zero.
Parents: one payment, several children
A parent account never holds credits of its own — it tops up each child separately.
Tick a child, type a number, repeat
Signed in as a parent, the top-up box lists each linked child with their name, their email address and their own remaining balance. Tick a child, type how many credits they should get, then tick the next. The amount shown on the button is the total for the whole selection, and one payment covers all of it.
Each child receives the credits on their own account, never pooled into one shared pot. Two children doing a lot of AI work therefore need two top-ups, and you can see at a glance who is running low.
What the history shows
The credit history lists every movement with its type, the number of credits, the payment reference and the date. When you fund several children in one payment, each of their allocations appears as its own line under the same reference, which makes a missing credit easy to trace to a particular child.
Once the payment is confirmed, the credits are yours immediately. If a child’s balance has not moved a few minutes after the confirmation, refresh their card in the tutor or come back to this page and press Refresh.

AI credit questions
Asked by students whose first tutor question was refused.
-
The tutor stopped answering. What happened?
Your balance has run out. A panel appears over the conversation saying the AI credits are exhausted, with a Top up credits button that takes you to this page. Buy what you need, pay, and come back to your lesson: the conversation is still there and the tutor picks up where you left off.
-
How many credits should I buy?
Enough for the work you are actually doing. Buy a small amount to start, come back to the balance after a week of lessons, and top up again — you will then know your own rhythm, which is far better than guessing a large number at the beginning. The history list shows what each payment bought, so nothing is wasted.
-
Can my balance go negative?
No. Credits are prepaid, so the balance stops at zero and the AI features stop rather than carrying on and billing you later. When it is empty you are told plainly and offered a top-up. If your school has switched on the free-model fallback, you will see a notice on this page explaining that requests move to free models instead.
-
I am a parent. Do I need credits for myself?
No. A parent account does not use the AI features itself, so it holds no balance of its own. You fund your linked children instead: tick each child on this page, type the amount, and pay once for the lot. The credits land on each child’s own account.
