Account, language and appearance: making Ekati yours

The settings screens where you change your password, your language and the way the site looks.

These three screens hold everything about how your account behaves and how Ekati looks on your device. They change nothing about your school file: no course, no mark and no fee is touched from here.

You reach them from your name at the very bottom of the sidebar — tap it and choose Settings. The address /settings/profile opens the first of the three. Nothing here is hard to find; it is just at the bottom, which is deliberate, because almost nobody changes these settings often.

Two of the three switches are also available outside settings, one tap away: the language button and the theme button both sit in the top bar next to the notification bell.

The three settings screens

What each one holds, and when you would open it.

  • You

    Profile

Your name and your email address, plus a button to re-send the verification email if it has not been confirmed.

  • Safe

    Security

Your password and two-factor authentication — a second code from your phone at every sign-in.

  • Look

    Appearance

Light, dark or your phone setting, plus five reading themes including a warm paper one for long lessons.

Changing your password and turning on two-factor authentication

The two settings that protect your account.

Change your password from Security

Open Settings then Security. You will be asked for your current password first — that is a deliberate step, so nobody can take over an account on a phone left unlocked. Then type the new password twice and press Save.

The rules the new password must meet are printed under the field as you type, so you are never guessing. A long, random password made of several unrelated words is both easier to remember and far harder to break than a short complicated one. If you try to change it too many times in a row, the page asks you to wait a while before trying again.

Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication means a second step at sign-in: after your password, your phone supplies a short code that changes every half minute. Even somebody who has your password cannot get in without your phone.

Turn it on with Enable 2FA. A setup window appears with a code to scan or type into an authenticator app on your phone. Once you confirm it, keep the recovery codes the page then shows — store them somewhere other than your phone, because they are the way back in if you lose the device.

When it is on, every sign-in asks for the pin. Disable 2FA turns it off again, and you lose the recovery codes with it. On a shared family phone, enable it on the account that matters and leave the others alone.

Language and the reading theme

Two switches, and neither of them needs a page reload to see the result.

EN and FR, in the top bar

Two small buttons marked EN and FR sit next to the notification bell. Press the one you want: the whole site changes language at once — menus, buttons, lesson content, reports and the documents you download. Ekati is written and translated in both languages, and nothing falls back to a half-French page halfway down.

Your choice is remembered, so you set it once. Switch language whenever you like: a French syllabus with an English textbook is a normal week in many households.

Five reading themes

On Appearance, below the light/dark choice, five themes are listed. Ekati Standard is the default look. Readers Mode uses warm paper tones with a serif font, made for long reading sessions. Ocean Focus and Forest Calm are calm blues and soft greens, easier on the eyes in a long evening. Ink Contrast is the sharpest of them all, for maximum legibility.

The same list is in the sidebar footer as a Theme switcher, so you can change it without leaving a lesson. Above the themes, Light, Dark and System control the general brightness; System simply follows your phone. Whichever you choose, Ekati remembers it on this device and uses it again next time you sign in.

Themes change colours and fonts only. No content, no language and no setting of your school file is touched, so you can switch in the middle of an exam preparation without any risk.

Account questions

Asked by families sharing one phone or one tablet.

  • How do I change the language of the whole site?

Tap EN or FR in the top bar, next to the notification bell. The change is immediate and applies everywhere, including lesson text and the reports you download. Ekati remembers your choice, so you only have to do it once.

  • Which theme is easiest on my eyes at night?

Ocean Focus and Forest Calm are the calm ones: low-contrast blues and greens that do not glare on a small screen in a dark room. Ink Contrast is the opposite choice — the sharpest and highest contrast, useful when the text needs to be crisp. Readers Mode is built for long reading rather than for night use.

  • What if I lose my phone with two-factor on?

That is what the recovery codes are for. When you enabled two-factor authentication the page gave you a set of codes; keep them somewhere other than your phone. Use one at the sign-in screen to get back in, then go back to Security and turn the feature off and on again with the new phone.

  • Someone else used my account. What do I change first?

Change your password first, from Security. Then, if you enabled two-factor authentication, turn it on so the next sign-in also needs your phone. Finally check the activity history: it lists the dated changes made on your enrolment, your payments and your course registrations.
